The Definitive Guide to Fishin’ Frenzy Slots

Fishin’ Frenzy is a legendary slot game and for a very good reason. First launched in 2014, the original game would go on to become the inspiration behind Pragmatic Play’s Big Bass Bonanza and kick-start the current angling slot craze we see today. It all began with Reel Time Gaming’s Fishin’ Frenzy, which was subsequently licensed to Merkur Gaming and, more successfully, Blueprint Gaming.

While the original slot is far simpler than some of its sequels and fishing-themed clones, that makes it a far more palatable game for beginners and first-timers, and an entry-level slot if you will. We’re not just here to discuss the first game in the series, though. We’ll also look at all of its successors, right up to the most recent title, Fishin’ Frenzy: The Big Catch 2.

Join us as we reveal the RTP rates, volatility, maximum wins and other key aspects of each game in the franchise. We’ll provide mini-reviews on each title, too, allowing you to decide which slot is best suited for your needs. We’ve been fans of the series since it first appeared in casinos over a decade ago, and so we’re well-placed to share our knowledge of the slot with you today, so let’s get started.

Introducing the Fishin’ Frenzy Slot Series

Fishin’ Frenzy first appeared in casinos in 2014, when it was developed by Reel Time Gaming. A small-scale developer, the brand had far more success licensing the slot (and rights to any sequels) to Merkur Gaming and Blueprint Gaming. It is the latter that is, perhaps, best known for this series, producing most of its sequels and even working its Jackpot King progressive network into a handful of those games.

Much like Pragmatic Play’s Big Bass Bonanza series (which is heavily inspired by Fishin’ Frenzy), the features and mechanics of the games have become more complex as time has moved on. After a lengthy five-year delay between the original slot and its Megaways edition, new slots have launched each year, and the rate at which new Fishin’ Frenzy games appear has increased. We saw three titles added to the franchise in 2023 and another trio in 2024. This year alone, we’ve already been treated to one new game.

Meet the Fishin’ Frenzy Slots You Can Play Online

To date, there are fifteen slots in the Fishin’ Frenzy series, some developed by different software providers but all part of the same family and similar to one another in terms of design and theme. Below, you’ll find a table that details each game (in order of release) and its key features. This table should give you a decent overview of what’s available at your favourite casinos.

Each Fishin’ Frenzy release doesn’t necessarily improve or expand upon certain features. There aren’t any patterns in terms of increasing volatility, wagering ranges or jackpots. Instead, the slot series regularly drops and revisits features. This works well, as it ensures that few of the games can be called “clones” of already existing Fishin’ Frenzy slots. It’s not something we can say about the rival Big Bass Bonanza series, where many titles are outright clones.

Fishin’ Frenzy Jackpot King Slots Explained

If you’re after Fishin’ Frenzy slots with Jackpot King capabilities, then these four titles are worth exploring:

Slot NameRelease DateVolatilityRTPMinimum Bet
Fishin’ Frenzy Jackpot KingMarch 24, 2020Medium-High96.32%0.10
Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways Jackpot KingApril 25, 2019Medium94.99%0.10
Fishin’ Frenzy: The Big Catch Jackpot KingMay 12, 2022Medium95.32%
Fishin’ Frenzy: Even Bigger Catch Jackpot KingAugust 10, 2023Medium-High95.49%

To win any of the Jackpot King progressives, you’ll need to trigger five Jackpot King Deluxe symbols on the first to fifth reels across the central row. If you then land fifteen crowns, you’ll enter the Wheel King section, with other options, including consolation prizes. Make it to the Wheel King Bonus, and you can spin a tombola-style wheel to land a final consolation prize or one of the jackpots.

This is a very long-winded way of awarding a progressive jackpot, which means Jackpot King games don’t pay out very often. That raises the value of their prizes but also means that Fishin’ Frenzy aficionados aren’t always that interested in trying the Jackpot King games, as the overlaying symbols necessary for triggering the bonuses interfere with gameplay.

How to Pick the Best Fishin’ Frenzy Games

Fishin’ Frenzy gives you over a dozen titles to choose from, and with each game played in a different manner, there are varying RTP rates, volatility levels, wagering ranges and prizes to consider. If you’re undecided about what to play, allow us to share our advice on where to begin:

  • Lowest Volatility: For the most part, Fishin’ Frenzy slots tend to be medium-high in variance. However, there are two games that feature medium volatility, and these include Fishin’ Frenzy: Reel Time Fortune and the Bubble Bonanza slot. Both are perfect if you want rapid, smaller-scale wins and are suitable for players on tighter budgets than most.
  • Highest RTP: Fishin’ Frenzy Fortune Spins is the outlier when it comes to the RTP rate. Admittedly, it has an RTP rate that is only fractionally better than that found in the original game (96.13% to 96.12%), but that makes it the best game for high RTP rates. You can’t argue with stats.
  • Biggest Wins: There are around half a dozen Fishin’ Frenzy slots with non-progressive jackpots worth 50,000x. However, a couple of the titles have Blueprint Gaming’s Jackpot King progressive jackpot network worked into their design. These include the original slot, The Big Catch, Even Bigger Catch, and Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways.

Our Top Four Standout Fishin’ Frenzy Slots

Everyone has their favourites, and as huge Fishin’ Frenzy fans, we do, too. While there are potentially all sorts of ways for you to decide which game suits you the best, we can recommend the following titles:

  • Ideal for New Players: The original game is the best option for new players. It supports elementary features, is uncomplicated, and its RTP and volatility levels are on point. We also recommend the original Fishin’ Frenzy slot, as it introduces you to concepts that you’ll encounter in its sequels. Choosing a later release might see you end up in the deep end without any prior knowledge of how the game’s features work.
  • Brutal Gameplay: There’s no doubt about it: Fishin’ Frenzy All Stars batters its players if they aren’t aware of what they’re getting into. A low RTP rate of 94.22% and high volatility make All Stars a brutal ride, even for experienced Fishin’ Frenzy slot players. If you like high-risk versus high-reward gameplay, though, as we sometimes do, the slot is worth a look.
  • Progressive Prizes: The first two games are ideal if you want to understand the basics and still compete for Jackpot King progressive prizes. Personally, we recommend the original over the Megaways edition, as its volatility isn’t as high, and it has a better RTP rate. The Big Catch and Even Bigger Catch can also be played as jackpot games.
  • Biggest All Stars: Fishin’ Frenzy: All Stars is the game we believe deviates the most from the series’ heart. It has three bonuses, each of which works slightly differently than you’ll find in its counterparts.

Every Fishin’ Frenzy Slot Explained Simply

We’ve briefly introduced you to the entries in the Fishin’ Frenzy slot series, and now it’s time to look at them in more detail. There are varying features, mechanics, wagering ranges and more to consider before you decide which Fishin’ Frenzy slot to play. Below, you’ll find mini reviews of each title in the franchise, along with what it offers to players. Again, we’ll list the games in order of release, so let’s start with the maiden Fishin’ Frenzy slot.

#1 Fishin’ Frenzy

The first slot in the series, Fishin’ Frenzy, is the ideal place to start, as it introduces you to many of the features and elements you’ll find in later games in the series. The angling-themed slot offers a non-progressive win of 5,000x, is played over five reels and ten lines, and provides medium-high variance action and an RTP rate of 96.12%, the second-best in the series.

This first slot introduces you to the Fishin’ Frenzy Bonus, triggered by three or more scatters, during which you can win between ten and twenty spins. Those spins feature fishermen wilds, and they’ll collect any cash prizes appearing on fish symbols on the reels. Collect two of those wilds, and you’ll double your catch. As mentioned, Blueprint released a Jackpot King version of this game.

Rating: 5/5

#2 Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways

Developed by Blueprint Gaming and launched over five years after the original, Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways doesn’t bring the conventional Megaways mechanic to the game. Instead, it offers up to 15,625 ways to win, but notably, it doesn’t offer the collapsing reels feature you’re likely used to seeing in these games.

The biggest difference here is the increase in jackpot value, at ten times what was up for grabs in the original, alongside a wagering range half as costly. Of course, the volatility level is increased, and you can now land up to six scatters, giving you as many as fifty free spins. Blueprint also created a Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways Jackpot King edition if you fancy hunting down progressive prizes.

Rating: 4/5

#3 Fishin’ Frenzy: Power 4 Slots

Arguably the Fishin’ Frenzy slot that deviates the most from conventional gameplay (at the time of its launch), the Power 4 Slots edition has a minimum stake of 0.40 a pop, and that’s because there are four sets of reels, each with the customary ten lines. Released in 2020, Fishin’ Frenzy Power 4 Slots also differs in terms of its bonus mechanics.

This medium-high variance game has the usual free spin round, but scatters can also trigger a Super Free Spins round. While the basic round is played over a single set of reels, the Super Free Spins mechanic serves up all four reels for its feature, giving you quadruple the chances to win at once.

Rating: 4/5

#4 Fishin’ Frenzy: The Big Catch

Blueprint Gaming’s The Big Catch was the fourth slot to be released in the series and debuted in the summer of 2021. The Big Catch continues with the medium-high variance action of most of its predecessors but rapidly drops the RTP rate to 95.3%. Its prize also returns to 5,000x for the first time since the original, while the maximum stake reaches a high of 100.00, a record that wouldn’t be beaten until The Big Catch 2 debuted in February 2025.

New for this release was The Big Catch feature. Here, wilds can be collected on a meter (much like in Big Bass Bonanza). Once four are accumulated, the lowest-paying fish symbols are upgraded, making them more valuable. Other upgrades can boost your free spin counter by up to thirty-five free games. Blueprint Gaming has released a Jackpot King version of this game.

Rating: 5/5

#5 Fishin’ Frenzy: Fortune Spins

The go-to game if you want to play Fishin’ Frenzy with the highest RTP rate (albeit marginally, at 96.13%), Fishin’ Frenzy: Fortune Spins initially doesn’t look much different to the original game. However, the Fortune Play mode makes its debut, allowing you to play with four sets of reels (as in Power 4 Slots) for an added cost.

Because the Fortune Spins mode is optional, you can choose to play the basic game but with a higher 50,000x jackpot and larger wagering range if you prefer. In a sense, it offers you a combination of Fishin’ Frenzy and the Power 4 Slots sequel in one, and it’s up to you how you decide to play.

Rating: 5/5

#6 Fishin’ Frenzy: The Big Catch Megaways

Released in March 2022, Fishin’ Frenzy: The Big Catch Megaways certainly doesn’t reinvent the wheel. Released roughly nine months after the original Big Catch game, this one simply introduces the Megaways engine into the mix. You’ll still get the Big Catch feature, so upgrading symbols is very much possible.

On the upside, the volatility level in The Big Catch Megaways is lower than the basic Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways slot at the cost of a reduced RTP rate (by 1.1%). Stakes are capped at 10.00, as with both the Megaways game and The Big Catch. In some ways, it is, like Fortune Spins, a combination of two previous Blueprint Gaming-developed Fishin’ Frenzy games.

Rating: 4/5

#7 Fishin’ Frenzy: Reel Time Fortune Play

Fishin’ Frenzy: Reel Time Fortune Play is the first of two games with the lowest volatility in this series. Unveiled in September 2022, Reel Time Fortune Play has its downsides, too. While it may have the lowest volatility, its RTP rate dips to 94.9%, lower than any slot thus far. To soften the blow, up to 50,000x can be won in this game. Again, you’ve got the Fortune Spins mode in play, this time called Fortune Play. You can also benefit from upgrading symbols in the bonus, much like in The Big Catch, which is yet another combo game.

Rating: 3/5

#8 Fishin’ Frenzy All Stars

If you thought the low RTP of the previous game was bad, Fishin’ Frenzy All Stars wants you to hold its beer. By far the most brutal of all the slots in this series, All Stars has one of the lowest RTP rates in the series, at 94.22%. To make it even more punishing, the game is highly volatile. A 50,000x non-progressive jackpot scarcely glosses over the gameplay, which isn’t for the faint-hearted.

Fishin’ Frenzy All Stars has a vastly different set of bonuses for you to enjoy. Firstly, there is the Fishing Frenzy bonus, and you’ll no doubt be familiar with that by now. The two other bonuses are loosely inspired by bonuses in other successful Reel Time Gaming slots. The Eye of Horus bonus (named after another successful slot from this provider) sees expanding wilds upgrade symbols and trigger re-spins. An El Torero bonus sees wilds becoming sticky and remaining in place for the duration of the round, but you cannot retrigger the mechanic.

Rating: 4/5

#9 Fishin’ Frenzy: Even Bigger Catch

Even Bigger Catch became the ninth Fishin’ Frenzy slot to debut in February 2023. It sees normal operations resumed, with medium-high variance action, an improved RTP rate of 95%, and a much lower wagering range (up to 10.00) than its predecessor. Developed by Blueprint Gaming, Fishin’ Frenzy: Even Bigger Catch introduces golden wilds into the mix. These can multiply winnings by up to 10x, while conventional wild fishermen continue the usual upgrade process.

Even Bigger Catch has a buy-a-bonus mode, which is unavailable to UK players. This gives you quick and easy access to the free spins round, albeit at a cost of 180x a stake. Choosing this route means fisherman wilds will also be gold, massively improving the value of your winnings but at a steep cost. Speaking of improved winnings, this is the fourth (and, at present) most recent Fishin’ Frenzy game to be added to Blueprint’s Jackpot King network.

Rating: 4/5

#10 Fishin’ Frenzy: The Big Splash

Fishin’ Frenzy: The Big Splash debuted in May 2023, and it saw the series return to small-scale prizes for the first time since The Big Catch, albeit with maximum stakes of up to 100.00 and medium-high variance. The developers stuck with the 95% RTP here, too, which is something they’ve largely done (or thereabouts) ever since this game debuted. Something else is unique about this game. Just like Big Bass Bonanza was clearly inspired by Fishin’ Frenzy, this game sees Fishin’ Frenzy recreate some of Big Bass Bonanza’s features, most notably during its feature.

The Big Splash introduces plenty of new elements into the mix, and as mentioned, they’ll be familiar to you if you’ve played Big Bass Bonanza. Before the free spins round, you’ll get Pick A Fish to unlock an upgrade. These can add additional fishermen wilds, additional fish, cash tags to premium symbols, extra collect symbols, and free spins to the reels. They can also offer re-spins on non-cash and fishermen symbols, resulting in a continually spinning set of reels until a win cannot be upgraded any longer. Collecting fishermen symbols is also worthwhile, as it can unlock multipliers of up to 10x, provide additional free spins, and give you another crack at the Pick A Fish upgrade mechanic.

Rating: 5/5

#11 Fishin’ Frenzy Christmas

The final Fishin’ Frenzy slot launched in 2023 failed to make waves at the time of its launch. As is customary these days, Blueprint Gaming sought to release a clone, albeit with a festive uplift in what is essentially a seasonal slot. The end result is a clone of the previous Fishin’ Frenzy: The Big Splash slot, albeit with Christmas imagery.

Rating: 2/5

#12 Fishin’ Frenzy: The Golden Catch Megaways

After a six-month wait, July 2024 saw the release of The Golden Catch Megaways. Again, Blueprint opted against going for the full Megaways experience, with just 15,625 lines up for grabs in this six-reel game. It has lower variance than you’d imagine for a Megaways game, but there are no collapsing reels or symbols, and its RTP rate of 95.51% is agreeable. Prizes returned to 50,000x for the first time since Even Bigger Catch was launched a year and a half earlier.

Cashpot prizes are the name of the game in this release. Landing three or more golden fish symbols on the reels can award one of seven Cashpot prizes. While not progressive, these range from 1x up to 1,000x a stake. The conventional free spin bonus is up for grabs, too, while golden fish symbols can magnify your winnings. Collecting fishermen wilds will upgrade your experience by adding spins and multipliers (of up to 5x) to collected symbols.

Rating: 3/5

#13 Fishin’ Frenzy: Even Bigger Fish

Released in October 2024, Even Bigger Fish sees Blueprint return to the world of highly volatile Fishin’ Frenzy slots. A lowered jackpot of 10,000x is harsh, given the increased variance, but there are definitely improvements in terms of game mechanics. For instance, gold fish trigger a click-and-win mechanic, whereby you’ll pick a hidden multiplier ranging from 2x up to 10x. They’ll then be added to the fishermen symbols.

Symbol upgrades are also present in this feature, one of which can raise the value of prizes by 50x and offer five free spins to your tally. There’s a buy-a-bonus round available, too, for non-UK players, and that costs 180x a stake, taking you straight into the free spin bonus with guaranteed golden fish symbols if triggered.

Rating: 3/5

#14 Fishin’ Frenzy: Bubble Bonanza

November 2024 saw the release of Fishin’ Frenzy: Bubble Bonanza. This marks the first time since Reel Time Fortune Play that the series has returned to low-end medium volatile action. Before you get too excited, though, you should know that Bubble Bonanza has the lowest RTP rate in the entire series, at just 94.11%. The lower volatility and 50,000x non-progressive jackpots soften the blow a bit, though.

Uniquely, Fishin’ Frenzy: Bubble Bonanza doesn’t focus on the angling hero, instead choosing to focus on the fish. Played over five reels and ten lines like all its non-Megaways counterparts, the slot incorporates bonus wheels into the mix. These can trigger wedges on the Big Fish Bonus Wheel, where you’ll walk away with epic prizes. Just one word of warning. While that all sounds great, it is an exclusive slot, so it can only be found at casinos running Skill on Net-powered casinos.

Rating: 2/5

#15 Fishin’ Frenzy: The Big Catch 2

The most recent release in the series, debuting in February 2025, Fishin’ Frenzy: The Big Catch 2, has the highest wagering range yet seen in any slot in this series, at up to 500.00 a pop. The game features medium-high volatility, and that, of course, means reduced prizes. At 5,000x, they are the same as the very first game in the series.

This sequel to The Big Catch naturally means that its predecessor’s mechanics appear in the game, alongside the Pick A Fish mechanics introduced in The Big Splash. Perks include a Cash Streak, where the reels keep spinning as long as fish symbols are collected. Look out for the can of worms, too, which can collect all visible fish symbols.

New to The Big Catch 2 is a Power Play mode. This is optional (and unavailable for UK players) and costs 5x a stake. This means that during the free spins round, only fish, fishermen wilds, and bonus symbols appear on the reels, resulting in potentially epic wins for Fishin’ Frenzy fans.

Rating: 5/5

#16 Fishin’ Frenzy: Even Bigger Fish 2

Blueprint Gaming saw the release of Fishin’ Frenzy: Even Bigger Fish 2 in April 2025. This is the latest 6×4 slot in the popular fishing series, offering 4,096 ways to win and a max payout of 10,000x. While the RTP sits at a lower 94.99%, the game introduces several exciting mechanics that freshen up the familiar formula.

New features include Bait ‘n’ Catch, Catch Match, Win Stepper, and Super Catch, all designed to increase base game engagement and win potential. The Free Spins round returns, enhanced by the Golden Fisherman who applies 2x–10x multipliers and symbol upgrades. Collecting four fisherman icons boosts prize values and adds extra spins. Despite its high volatility and reduced RTP, Even Bigger Fish 2 makes up for it with more dynamic gameplay, progressive win mechanics, and better bonus potential. It’s a solid entry in the Fishin’ Frenzy saga, appealing to both long-time fans and newcomers seeking big catch wins.

Rating: 3.5/5.

5 Tips for Playing Fishin’ Frenzy Slots from Fans

General slot strategy rules can apply to all the games in this series, especially regarding bankroll management and choosing games based on RTP and volatility. Having played Fishin’ Frenzy slots for over a decade, we’ve got a few exclusive tips to share with you, too, and they include:

  • You should absolutely, 100% (in our opinion) start with the first Fishin’ Frenzy game. It introduces you to the core mechanics that feature in virtually every subsequent release and sequel. It isn’t tough on your bankroll, either, so it makes the ideal entry point into the slot series.
  • As each of the sequel games in the series diverges from the basic format found in the first game and often expands on it, we strongly recommend playing free-to-play demos of each game before wagering real money. This gives you an opportunity to experiment and preview the game in a risk-free environment.
  • Understand how RTP and volatility work and how they differ from game to game. If you know how RTP and volatility affect payouts, you’ll be able to make good judgments about which game is best suited to your budget and play style.
  • Not every Fishin’ Frenzy slot is intertwined with Blueprint Gaming’s Jackpot King Network. As discussed, there are four of these games to choose from at the time of writing. The games that are part of this progressive network will have Jackpot King as part of their title – for example, Fishin’ Frenzy Jackpot King. They are unmistakable from the regular game. Of course, their availability depends on whether your casino supports Blueprint Gaming slots or not.
  • Fishin’ Frenzy hasn’t just inspired rival developers to launch its own games. It also has its own spin-offs. For instance, selected casinos may also support a Fishin’ Frenzy Scratchcard. This plays in largely the same way as most other instant-win online scratch cards and gives you more options if you can’t get enough fishing-themed fun.
